KPV is three amino acids, and that shortness shapes the buying problem.
Its anti-inflammatory activity is well documented in cell and animal models — the compound profile grades the colitis and general anti-inflammatory work at D, meaning preclinical. There are no controlled human trials.
Short peptides make identity harder, not easier
The intuition runs the other way, so it is worth stating plainly: a tripeptide is trivial to synthesise, trivial to substitute, and impossible to distinguish by eye. Purity assays report how homogeneous a sample is, not what it is.
Mass spectrometry on a lot-matched certificate is the only check that connects the powder to the label. On a molecule this small, a vendor unwilling to provide it has told you what you need to know.
Watch for longer alpha-MSH fragments sold as KPV. They are related molecules with different activity, and the naming in this corner of the market is loose.
Net content matters more here
Counterions and residual solvent are a larger share of vial weight for a short peptide than for a 15-residue one. A vendor reporting net peptide content is giving you the number that determines what you actually received; one reporting only gross vial weight is not.
Before you buy
- Require mass-spec identity. A three-residue peptide is cheap to substitute and hard to distinguish by appearance or by purity assay alone.
- Check the COA lot number against the vial rather than accepting a product-line certificate.
- Confirm net peptide content — short peptides carry proportionally more counterion mass.
- Verify the sequence stated on the COA is Lys-Pro-Val. Vendors sometimes ship longer alpha-MSH fragments under the same name.
