Reconstitution

In plain language

Mixing a freeze-dried powder with a sterile liquid to turn it into an injectable solution.

Technical definition

The process of dissolving a lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide in a diluent such as bacteriostatic water to produce a solution of known concentration for injection.

Many peptides are shipped as a dry powder for stability and must be reconstituted before use. The amount of diluent added determines the final concentration, which in turn determines the dose per unit of volume drawn into a syringe.
