Amylin

In plain language

A hormone released with insulin that slows digestion and helps you feel full.

Technical definition

A peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells that suppresses glucagon, slows gastric emptying, and promotes satiety; analogs such as cagrilintide are being combined with GLP-1 agonists.

Amylin works alongside insulin to regulate post-meal blood sugar and appetite. Long-acting amylin analogs like cagrilintide are being studied both alone and in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists for weight management.
